Why have Moslem leaders never condemned terrorist attacks committed in the name of Allah? Because Islam is fundamentally opposed to all the west and christianity stands for.
A key feature of Western rights is freedom of speech - the right to express your thoughts and beliefs. I dont like this movie but i like the fact the he can make this film and publish it.

Imagine a world run by the Islamists. Stripped of creativity, self-expression, governed by sadistic rules that extinguish the essence of personal freedom.

A true Christian (March 31st, 2008 - 4:50 PM)
This movie is not a movie from imagination. These are Moslem leaders who are full of hate. the sheikh who has the sword in his hand was a real person with real word. The bottom line they are upset because somene is trying to uncomer Islam to the world to see the truth ... the real truth about Islam.
someone (March 31st, 2008 - 12:24 AM)
I would like to point out that Wilder's only showed what muslims were saying and what the Qur'an says. He shows the quotes, he shows a Muslim leaders talking about distroying the infadels.
Nabil S Alhamid (March 30th, 2008 - 10:52 PM)
The reasons given to allow this movie to happen is freedom of speech.

Why then is it that when people like Revisionist Ernst Zündel who cast doubt regarding the Holocaust were prosecuted?

Freedom of speech to a limit is not Freedom of speech.

Only when attacking non Jewish issues is it OK to say whatever you want.

As soon as a discussion is opened about the treatment od Palistineans in the west bank being put in the largest concentration camp ever built.

Or when discussing freely if the halocaust actually happened. You cannot. You'll go to prison for that. Books will be destroyed. People will be silenced.

WHERE IS THE FREEDOM?
TUB (March 30th, 2008 - 7:46 PM)
I would say ppl simply demand third world war. this time its going to be really BLOODY. Attacking someones religion is provoking them for war. These people are jealous of popularity of islam. All the ppl slaughtring human and claiming themselves to be muslims including Bin Laden are their agents. Trying to defame islam.
The Solution (March 30th, 2008 - 1:39 PM)
Let's create a country for terrorists (muslim, christian, whatever religion) to live in. Give them plenty of weapons, and close the borders. With a big big wall. After this, let's live in peace.

(We can use Belgie for this purpose, the belgians have no clue what to do with their country so that's a win-win situation)

Jim (March 30th, 2008 - 3:54 AM)
I just noticed that someone named "Jim" posted a message on March 29 at 12:20 AM), starting "The true message of Islam might be noble indeed." That is not me, though I pretty much agree with what this other Jim says.

To continue with "Islam demands respect for itself, but shows no respect for others." ... "proud 2 b muslim" provides a great example of this in his comment of March 30, 12:40 AM. Among other comments, he writes: "wilders have some respect ok u racist bastard".

To "proud", I say "Have some respect."
Jim (March 30th, 2008 - 3:41 AM)
As the author of this web page points out, Islam demands respect for itself, but shows no respect for others. It even demands death for anyone who converts from Islam to some other religion (or to no religion). Why should we respect a religion like that? (And why should we respect a religion that promotes sharia law, which is primitive and barbaric?)

We will show some respect for Islam when Islam shows us that it deserves respect. When Islam respects the right of people to believe differently, instead of trying to wipe all such people off the face of the earth, and when Muslims strongly condemn terrorism (especially when it is done in the name of Islam), and when Muslims stop reacting violently to cartoons that suggest that Islam promotes violence, then maybe we will show some respect.

Some of the commenters here say that Islam is a peaceful religion, and that those who say otherwise do not understand Islam and should "research the true Quran, research the true Islam", as dilse_islam writes. I think those comments should be directed to bin Laden and the other terrorists. They obviously do not understand Islam or the Quran -- if they did, they would be peaceful, right?? If I research the Koran and somehow decide that Islam is peaceful, how does that affect the world? Not very much, really. But if Osama bin Laden and others research the Koran and decide that Islam is peaceful, then that would have a much bigger affect on the world.

Islam needs to adopt much (very much) more of a "live and let live" attitude toward people of other religions, instead of the current "we will do everything we can to force everyone to live by our religion and our rules." I guess we are supposed to "research the Koran" to find verses that call for respecting the followers of other religions, and ignore the verses that say "kill the infidels!" The Koran contains both types of verses, but the latter are much more strongly emphasized.
Jim (March 30th, 2008 - 1:57 AM)
The write-up on the Bible, near the bottom of this page, says: "The Bible is a collection of fictional religious writings of Judaism and of Christianity."

"fictional" ?? Christians certainly don't consider the Bible to be fictional.

"2cents or less" says that Wilders "makes followers of a religion the victim." No, it is not Wilders, it is the extremists/terrorists that make followers of Islam the victim.
proud 2 b muslim (March 30th, 2008 - 12:40 AM)
if there is any thing i would say it would be that wilders is a man with a very poor mind and a very narrow view, coz i am a 100% sure such an empty person like him will face trouble for this stupid movie, wilders have some respect ok u rasist bastard

Another Hitler in the making. One make a race the victim and this one make followers of a religion the victim. Look where both trying to get us into.
Jim (March 29th, 2008 - 12:20 AM)
The true message of Islam might be noble indeed. The islamic leaders are the monsters in this case though that they use an ancient script like this to manipulate uneducated masses to their own political purposes. Bombings and assasinations are not the way to peace and salvation that is the sure fact. And exactly those acts make all the muslims look bad. Noone said that the chistian crusaders were better, noone says that the catholics or the orthodoxes are good now, but that doesnt justify u to bomb 5000 people in one day because u had nothing else to do that specific day.... In other words ... behave before its too late.....
dilse_islam (March 28th, 2008 - 10:41 PM)
Instead of just sittin in front of the computer or tv, and beleiveing everythin you see, maybe it wouldnt kill people to actually get up and research islam for themselves. Ignorance is no excuse these days. you have information everywhere, you just have to work for it.

If you have to beleive something, beleive this: Islam IS a peaceful religion. it is the FASTEST growing religion in the world. It is the SECOND biggest religion in the world.

Yes its dealing with issues. but you know wat? Christian crusades--- welcome to 2008 and there called Islamic extremism. Do not just blame Islam.

Get up and reseach the true Quran, research the true Islam. start making up your own opinions. dont just give in to what other people tell you. you have a brain, use it.

@ Concerned Muslim
I'm not against believes but why do you compare a believe with historic facts ? By definition a believe is different from the factual world. You don't need to prove the existence of God to believe in God. The same thing is with the opposite. If you believe there exist no god you don't have prove it.

Concerning the holocaust . It's a fact that this happened. You are allowed to say people are to sensitive about it. I don't think that is the real discussion. The discussion is that some people say the holocaust never happen. Telling lies that is wat people are sensitive about.

Its not to late for Allah to forgive u. Islam is a religion of peace and one that believes in One God. Propeht Muhammned (saw) was the last prophet. All his teachings were peaceful. Real Dutch (March 25th, 2008 - 10:01 PM)
When you actually live in Holland, you will understand why most of the Dutch people dislike the Muslims. 'When someone is a guest in your house and he can't behave and you tried talking about this behaviour, but it doesn't help, you will kick your guest out of your house. That is what the Dutch will do'.
Wilders movie only shows an overview of the Koran. Why are the Mulsims so afraid? Afraid for the awfull things which where done in the name of Allah? Take a look on google; "Islam's war against the west", then give me your opinion.

Why is it that freedom of speech is given as a reason when attacking Islam but the same can not be said of the holocaust ?

Historians who even doubted the holocaust were tried and sentenced for even haven talked about it.

When you can freely talk about that then come and lecture us about freedom of speech.

THE HAGUE
Thursday March 28th 2008
Politician Geert Wilders has published his anti-Koranfilm Fitna on the Internet. The long-awaited film shows the view of Wilders that the Quran is a fascist writing.

Fitna online
The film is published website www.liveleak.com. Fitna is now spreading over the internet. Fitna shows very shocking images of victims of terrorist attacks, combined with verses from the Koran. It also shows among others filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who talks lightly about a possible attempt on his life.

Salah Edin
After that images of headlines about the murder of Van Gogh in 2004 and Mohammed B. appear. Also shown are imams that are talking about Jews and gay. The portrait of Mohammed B. in the film, however, is that of rapper Salah Edin, who on a CD cover used a persiflage photograph of him looking like Mohammed B. Edin can only laugh at the misunderstanding. "Wilders does not really verify his sources," he says.

Islamization
Furthermore, the film shows statistics on the number of Muslims in the Netherlands. The politician calls for a stop of Islam and for a start in defending the Dutch freedoms. The Dutch Government has already viewed the film. Wilders had warned that at the end of the 17-minute film "something would happen". Fitna ends with the sound of a page that is torn from a telephonebook.

Content
This tearing is followed by the text: "For it is not up to me, but to Muslims themselves, to tear the hateful verses from the Koran. You must have respect for Islam, but Islam has no respect for you. Islam wants to dominate, and orders the destruction of our Western civilization. In 1945, in Europe Nazism was beaten. In 1989, communism in Europe was beaten. Now the Islamic ideology has to be beaten. Stop Islam. Defend our freedom. "

End
The final picture of Fitna: a blank book with on the left the Danish cartoon of the prophet Mohammed, in which his turban is a bomb. After a few seconds an countdown to an explosion is suggested.

Comment Wilders
Wilders says Fitna is a "decent movie". He can imagine that Muslims are not happy with it, but he tells us that he sticked to the facts. The film is within "a thousand kilometers within the boundaries of the dutch law," he said Thursday.

Anti Terror service
Wilders has told a high officer of the anti-terror-service NCTb three hours in advance to publishing that his anti-Koranfilm would appear on the Internet.

Dutch Government
Wilders hopes that the dutch government will react in a different way to his film now it has been released. He wants to start "a mature debate" about the content of his film. "I think that Prime Minister Balkenende will scratch behind his ears when he sees this movie."

Riots
Wilders hopes that no riots will erupt. "My film is not intended to create riots." But according to him, the maker of the film never can be held responsible for riots or boycotts. He hopes that the film leads to a discussion of the disadvantages of Islam in the Netherlands and abroad. He invites Muslims to this discussion

Research for criminal offences
The Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) will investigate for possible criminal offences in the anti-Koranfilm of PVV leader Geert Wilders.

About Fitna, the Netherlands and Wilders

Fitna the Movie

Fitna is an upcoming film by Dutch politician Geert Wilders. The movie will offer a critical view on the world of Islam and the Qur'an. The name comes from the Arabic word Fitna which is used to describe "disagreement and division among people", or a "test of faith in times of trial".

The movie was first mentioned in the Dutch media on November 27 2007. Wilders has stated that he will try to get the film on the Internet before the end of March 2008.

Geert Wilders: riding the hype

He is one of the best-known Dutch politicians. His views about Islam have offended Muslims and non-Muslims alike, within the Netherlands and around the world. He's the most famous bleach-blond since Marilyn Monroe. And he's about to release a highly controversial anti-Islam film, called Fitna, or "Ordeal" in Arabic. But just who is Geert Wilders, and what makes him tick?

- RNW movie: 'About Fitna'
- Geert Wilders profile
- Dutch government worried
- Concern among Dutch expats
It's said that the turning point in Wilders' life came when he spent some time in Israel in the 1980s. To this day he maintains a strong bond with the country. Back in the Netherlands, he won a seat in parliament for the conservative VVD in 1998. He became party spokesperson on foreign policy. His colleagues were impressed by the breadth of his knowledge of the Middle East.

His extreme views, particularly his concern about the Islamification of the Netherlands, were not yet in evidence. That began to change after 9/11. He left the VVD and started his own Freedom Party, which holds nine seats in the 150-seat parliament.

In the left column you can find a selection of recent articles on the man who's firmly held the right-wing monopoly in the Islam debate in the Netherlands.

Freedom of speech

Freedom of speech is the concept of being able to speak freely without censorship. The right to freedom of speech is guaranteed under international law through numerous human rights instruments, notably under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, although implementation remains lacking in many countries.

The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes preferred, since the right is not confined to verbal speech but is understood to protect any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used.

In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country, although the degree of freedom varies greatly. Industrialized countries also have varying approaches to balance freedom with order. For instance, the United States First Amendment theoretically grants absolute freedom, placing the burden upon the state to demonstrate when (if) a limitation of this freedom is necessary. In almost all liberal democracies, it is generally recognized that restrictions should be the exception and free expression the rule; nevertheless, compliance with this principle is often lacking.

Religion

A religion is a set of beliefs and practices often organized around supernatural and moral claims, and often codified as prayer, ritual, and religious law. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and mystic experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction.

In the frame of European religious thought, religions present a common quality, the "hallmark of patriarchal religious thought": the division of the world in two comprehensive domains, one sacred, the other profane. Religion is often described as a communal system for the coherence of belief focusing on a system of thought, unseen being, person, or object, that is considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine, or of the highest truth. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, tradition, rituals, and scriptures are often traditionally associated with the core belief, and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion is also often described as a "way of life".

The development of religion has taken many forms in various cultures. "Organized religion" generally refers to an organization of people supporting the exercise of some religion with a prescribed set of beliefs, often taking the form of a legal entity (see religion-supporting organization). Other religions believe in personal revelation. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system," but is more socially defined than that of personal convictions.

The Koran

The Qur’an  (Arabic: القرآن ‎ al-qur'ān, literally "the recitation"; also sometimes transliterated as Qur’ān, Koran, Alcoran or Al-Qur’ān) is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe the Qur’an to be the book of divine guidance and direction for mankind, and consider the original Arabic text to be the final, divine revelation of God.  Islam holds that the Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad by the angel Gibraele (Gabriel) over a period of 23 years. The importance of the Qur’an for Muslims and Islam is tantamount to the importance of Jesus Christ for Christians and Christianity.

Muslims regard the Qur’an as the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with those revealed to Adam, regarded in Islam as the first prophet, and continued with the Suhuf-i-Ibrahim (Scrolls of Abraham), the Tawrat (Torah), the Zabur (Psalms), and the Injeel (Gospel). The aforementioned books are not explicitly included in the Qur’an, but are recognized therein. The Qur’an also refers to many events from Jewish and Christian scriptures, retelling some of these events in comparatively distinctive ways from the Bible and the Torah, while obliquely referring to other events described explicitly in those texts.

The Qur'an itself expresses that it is the book of guidance. Therefore it rarely offers detailed accounts of historical events; the text instead places emphasis typically on the moral significance of an event rather than its narrative sequence. It does not describe natural facts in a scientific manner but teaches that natural and supernatural events are signs of God.

The Qur’an was written down by Muhammad's companions (sahabah) while he was alive, although the prime method of transmission was orally. It was compiled in the time of Abu Bakr, the first caliph, and was standardized in the time of Uthman, the third caliph. The Qur’an in its actual form is generally considered by academic scholars to record the words spoken by Muhammad because the search for variants in Western academia has not yielded any differences of great significance and that historically controversy over the content of the Qur’an has never become a main point. Therefore all Muslims, Sunni or Shia use the same Qur’an.

The Bible

The Bible is a collection of religious writings of Judaism and of Christianity. The books that are considered to be part of the Biblical canon vary depending upon the historic tradition using or defining it. These variations are a reflection of the range of traditions and councils that have convened on the subject.

The Jewish version of the Bible, the Tanakh, is divided into three parts: the Teaching, the Prophets, and the Writings. The Christian version of the Bible includes books of the Tanakh, but includes additional books and reorganizes them into two parts: the books of the Old Testament primarily sourced from the Tanakh (with some variations), and the 27 books of the New Testament containing books originally written primarily in Greek. Some versions of the Christian Bible have a separate Apocrypha section for the books not considered canonical by the tradition or sometimes the publisher.

By 2007, the Bible was translated into 429 languages, with portions of it translated in 2,426 languages.
